M11 object information
The open cluster was discovered by Gottfried Kirch in 1681. In May 1764 Charles Messier included the cluster into his catalogue. M 11, due to its appearance with flying ducks also known as wild duck cluster, is a compact and star rich cluster located in the Scutum cloud.
